Congratulations to our soccer players who were recently presented with their medals as a result of winning the 1st Year Leinster Schools Soccer Regional League 2019-20. This was the first time Our Lady’s Bower were represented at this age group in the FAI schools competition.

The first fixture last November saw the side come away with a 6-1 victory against Moyne Community School. Meabh Eager had a solid game in defence, while Lauren Shannon and Lara Deehan were excellent in the centre of mid-field.  Scores came from Éabha Brett, Meekah Beaumont, Jayne Meares (2) and Ella Kenny (2).  Keira Murray was unlucky on a couple of occasions.

The second fixture was a home game against a strong Kishoge Community College side in December.  Once again there was a solid performance from Meabh Eager and Éabha Brett in defence.  Lauren Shannon, Lara Deehan and Jayne Meares were exceptional in mid-field and our goal scorers yet again were Ella Kenny and Meekah Beaumont, who scored two goals, one from a free kick.

As a result of these wins the team progressed to the next round. The girls trained hard each week in preparation.  In March the draw was announced and the Bower side was set to face Loreto Secondary School, Kilkenny.  Efforts were made to set a match date however, due to COVID-19 restrictions the fixture could not go ahead.

The whole side showed great dedication and spirit throughout the season and have great potential for the future. Well done girls. We look forward to seeing you take to the pitch in the Bower blue again soon.
