ailoTwenty-four students from different year groups took on the AILO challenge on Monday, 29 January. This involved translating sentences into an unknown language such as Icelandic or Mandar, an Indonesian language by figuring out words from sample sentences. Another challenge involved figuring out an Icelandic family tree!

The All Ireland Linguistics Olympiad is a key element of the ADAPT Centre’sย Problem Solving Initiative. ADAPT is the world-leading research centre for digital content technology. It has 130 researchers at Trinity College Dublin, Dublin City University, University College Dublin and Dublin Institute of Technology.

Outstanding students may be invited to represent Ireland at the International linguistics Olympiad in Dublin in August 2018. Last year Caoimhe Mannion was one of the top scoring students in Ireland, finishing nationally in 36th place.
