Congratulations to 5th Year Ellen O’Connell and 1st Year Méabh O’Higgins who have been selected to represent their respective counties of Westmeath and Roscommon on the football field. Ellen, who plays her club football with Athlone GAA and has represented the school at U14 and U16 level, will lineout with the Westmeath Minors in the coming season. She and her club teammates were victorious at Minor level last year and she is looking forward to keeping this winning streak alive with the newly formed county side. Ellen, a skilful forward, has had a number of challenge matches to date; against AIT and Laois. Her first competitive outing is scheduled for February 15th when the side takes on Carlow.

Méabh, who plays with Clann na nGael, has been selected to play for the Roscommon U14 side. She too has experienced great success with her club to date, having won the county final last year and finishing second at Féile. Trials for the side have been taking place since the end of August, with training sessions and challenge matches helping selectors create the final panel of 30 players.

We wish both girls every success and extend our congratulations to their clubs.
