Sixth year Jennifer Byrne is currently training with the Irish squad in Florida as they prepare for the 2010 FIFA Women’s U-17 World Cup. The competition will be held in Trinidad and Tobago from the 5-25 September and Jennifer, a key player, will be expected to start against Brazil in their first match on Monday, 6 September. This is the first time that Ireland has qualified to compete in a women’s World Cup.

The team qualified by finishing second in the UEFA Championships in Switzerland during the summer. The girls lost out to Spain in a penalty shoot-out, having held the highly rated Spaniards to a scoreless draw. The Irish girls had already eliminated the tournament favourites, Germany.
