2 (2)Twelve swimmers from Our Lady’s Bower participated in the Connacht senior school championships which were held in Claremorris on Sunday, 15 October. It was a very worthwhile outing for the team as they came home with an impressive haul of nine gold medals, two silver and a bronze. Many of the girls had personal bests on the day.

In the senior category Mae Barriello won gold in the 100m backstroke and the 100m freestyle while the senior relay teams also won gold. The senior medley team featured Mae, Rebecca Lowe, Ellen Flaherty and Erika Lowe while the freestyle relay team featured Isabelle Clarke in place of Erika.

2 (1)In the intermediate section Rebecca Lowe won three golds – in the 100m backstroke, 100m freestyle and 400m freestyle. Ellen Flaherty was next best with two golds in breaststroke and individual medley while Kelsey Daly, Isabelle Clarke and Aoife McDermott had great swims.

In the junior section Sile McAuley won silver in the 100m backstroke and bronze in the 200m medley with Erika Lowe taking silver in the 100m freestyle. Fellow swimmers Kate Mannion, Millie O’Brien, Eliza Heaslip and Eloise Clarke all performed well in their events.

Well done to all the girls who represented the school so ably and to their coaches in Athlone SC. It is especially gratifying to see first years bring new blood to the team and ensuring that we continue to make waves in the pool. The junior freestyle relay featured three first years, Eloise, Millie and Kate, who will no doubt represent us for years to come. The girls will be in action again early in the new year.
