hannah duffyAll first year students were invited to participate in a coding workshop organised by Ericsson employees to promote STEM subjects in second level schools.

The girls visited the company in four groups from Monday, 6 November to Thursday, 9 November and were very well looked after during the workshop.

Not only were they given souvenirs of their visit, they had unlimited refreshments and the undivided attention of the mentoring employees.

As a company Ericsson places great emphasis on giving back to the community and under the leadership of past pupil Barbara Quinn the students had a comprehensive introduction to coding. Rachel O’Toole was also on hand to explain why girls would make ideal engineers.

Each group had to make a presentation at the end of the day and the winning team received prizes with the company logo. Many thanks to all involved in this fantastic initiative.
