Gaelic Football 2016-2017

Senior Team:

Our season began in mid September with training bright and early Tuesday mornings at 7am followed by breakfast in the school canteen.  It was here the girls showed their hard work and dedication by pushing themselves to the limits in order to obtain their optimum goal. Unfortunately the girls lost to Athlone Community College and Ballymahon.

However, with determination the girls took on Moyne Community School which resulted in a 10 point win for Our Lady’s Bower.

Due to the two losses at the start the Bower were unfortunate not to qualify for the Leinster finals.  For their hard work Deidre rewarded the girls with an overnight stay to Aspire, Clara where the girls took part in an obstacle course orienteering through rivers and trenches and many more enjoyable team bonding activities.  We would like to wish our 6th year player Kate Brennan the best of luck in the coming months as she approaches the end of her senior cycle in Our Lady’s Bower.

U16 – Team:

The U16- team also started in mid September with training after school on Thursdays.  The girls faced the challenging sides of Ballymahon, Athlone Community College and Moyne.  The team were unable to qualify for the Leinster finals but they had a great year and are ready for battle next year!  We would like to take this opportunity to wish the 3rd years the best of luck in their Junior Cert.

U14 – Team:

Our new first year recruits joined our experienced second years in a successful campaign beating Killbeggan and Tullamore. However, the girls luck did not continue as they were defeated by a talented Moate team. Our first years put on an impressive display in Kinnegad where they had an undefeated run and qualified for the Leinster quarter final on the 25th of April.  We would like to express our sincere gratitude and appreciation to our coach and mentor, Deirdre, for all the time and effort she puts into the Bower Gaelic teams.
