Gender EqualityMembers of the Alpha deBata Society travelled to the Carmelite Centre in Dublin on Friday, March 8th to participate in a Concern Worldwide workshop on gender equality. March 8th was International Women’s Day and the girls, along with students from 7 other schools, explored why gender equality is vital to achieving a better world for everyone. The students engaged in various group activities throughout the day, as they discussed gender roles, stereotypes, norms and concerns. They also created a short video highlighting why it is important to celebrate International Women’s Day. In the afternoon the girls focused in a more general way on the SDGs and learned how and why gender equality is essential in meeting all of these goals. It was a really beneficial workshop and the students loved working alongside students from around the country on this important topic.
