Our Lady’s Bower was very fortunate to host a visit from social entrepreneur and former GOAL CEO, Mr John O’Shea. After 35 years at the head of an international humanitarian agency, Mr O’Shea is now sharing his motivational stories with others, in the hope of inspiring another generation to take up the challenge of alleviating the suffering of the forgotten people of our planet.

Mr O’Shea highlighted the herculean work of young people throughout the world to ensure human rights for all are a reality and not just an aspiration. Mr O’Shea shared his personal stories of working with and for the world’s poorest people. He called on our Bower girls to also become advocates for the forgotten people and asked them to use their knowledge of Ireland’s history to create change for those who are forced to flee their homes in times of crisis.

The girls have answered the call to champion the cause of migrants and refugees worldwide. They have been busily emailing Taoiseach Micheál Martin and Minister for Foreign Affairs Mr Simon Covney, to plead with them as Ireland’s leaders and freshly appointed members of the UN Security Council  to act on behalf of the world’s displaced.

We would like to sincerely thank Mr O’Shea for visiting our school and speaking with and inspiring our girls.
