Our Lady’s Bower will be one of 22 schools in the midlands participating in the Healthy Schools Initiative, a joint venture between the HSE and the Department of Education aimed at promoting schools capacity as a healthy setting for living, learning and working.

Health will be defined in the broadest sense and refers to social, emotional, mental and physical health – all influenced by the school environment.

There are many benefits to becoming a health promoting school. Some of these include better learning outcomes for students, an increase in student self-esteem and lower incidences of bullying.

The venture will be spearheaded by Grainne Powell and Mary McGrath from the HSE and they will meet with staff and students to help formulate a plan for heathier living.
