Students were faced with a lot of problems last week….maths problems that is! The Maths Department ensured that all areas were covered with “sum” problem-solving activities to celebrate Maths Wek 2019.

Six areas contained rolling PowerPoint projects created by students which highlighted how we encounter maths every day in the real world. The computer room was open through break and lunch for students to participate in maths and coding quizzes and games, using the Mangahigh App. TY students were on the move throughout break and lunch challenging all years with their maths puzzles. A maths cake…or should that be “pie” competition was also held with some very creative entries being submitted.

20191018_140839A display entitled “Maths is Universal” proved very popular with students as they were encouraged to add to a maths related sentence in as many languages as possible throughout the week. TYs organised a very exciting maths table quiz for our 1st Year students to bring the week to a close. Congratulations to Eimear Dolan, Sarah Jasinska, Nina Notonska and Kathy Tran who came 1st and the team of Tara Duignan, Thérése Farrell, Niamh Hegarty and Jahmelia Kukwikila who came 2nd.

The week was a great success. Well done to all who took on the challenges, developing knowledge and skills along the way.
