The members of our Student Council, with Principal Mr Casey and Student Council Co-Ordinator Ms Clogher, attended the launch of the Safe Disposal of Drug Related Litter Initiative in the Shamrock Lodge on December 4th. The main aim of the initiative was to raise awareness among students about drug litter and its related safety issues. Mr Joe Potter, Chairperson of the Midland Regional Drug and Alcohol Taskforce, spoke to the group, in addition to Minister of State for Health Promotion and the National Drugs Strategy, Catherine Byrne, TD. The event was also supported by members of An Garda Siochana and local politicians, including Athlone Town Mayor Mr Frankie Keena. Head Girl Kate Duffy also got the opportunity to interview Minister of State Catherine Byrne for Athlone Community Radio. The student Council found this to be a hugely informative and beneficial event and were eager to feed back the information learned to their fellow students.
