The Our Lady’s Bower Senior hockey team played Ursuline College, Sligo at Athlone Regional Sports Centre on Thursday, November 4th. From the first whistle OLB came straight out of the blocks and dominated the play with excellent teamwork and movement. This was very impressive, especially against the calibre of the opposition.

After continued pressure from OLB, Eva Fitzpatrick scored a great goal in the 17th minute, which was well deserved. The defensive line played very well during this period and dealt with any attack effectively.

On 20 minutes after a shot from Gracie Loftus, Sally O’ Hara passed the ball across the goal for Eva Fitzpatrick to score the second. Good team play continued throughout the first half.

OLB started the second half just as the first. In the second minute great play by Sally O’Hara almost created another goal opportunity but it was well defended by Ursuline College.

Good play by Marian Nolan, Cara Fitzpatrick and Molly Horan helped to both defend and attack effectively.

With 10 minutes to go the 3rd goal was scored from a short corner, the finish from Eva Fitzpatrick for a fantastic hat-trick.

With 7 minutes to go a deflected own goal made it 4-0.

This was a very comprehensive and inspiring display of hockey against a strong opposition. Player of the match was Eva Fitzpatrick, but every player showed great discipline and skill until the final whistle.
