This year the Midland Bar Association launched an essay writing competition in memory of former Bower girl and youngest judge in Ireland, when she was appointed to the District Court bench in 2014, Gráinne O’Neill (RIP). Gráinne was very proud to be a Bower girl and thankfully was always willing to lend her support to school events, most notably acting as judge for the Alpha deBata Society’s Bugler Shield Competition. The school was thrilled to receive the news that this year’s competition was won by 5th Year Clare Reidy, with classmates Róisín Ní Dhuibhir coming 2nd and Gabrielle Dalby coming 3rd. Each of the girls wrote compelling essays on whether the age of criminal responsibility in Ireland should remain at 12 years or be increased. Well done to all.
