Simon Community

Thank you to Ms June Carley and Ms Cora McDonnell from the Midlands Simon Community, who spoke with our TYs on Friday Sept. 27th. The girls learned about the work the community does and services it provides, in support of people in the Midlands region of Laois, Longford, Offaly and Westmeath.

They also found out about the new out of hours service the community provides and how they could get involved and make a real difference in terms of social justice. The charity is currently engaging with rough sleeping; providing basic supports, information and advice. They are also looking for volunteers to help in the creation of hygiene packs that can be distributed to those who use the service.

Our girls have offered their support by raising awareness in school and asking classmates to donate every-day hygiene products which they will then use to create practical packs to pass on to Simon staff. Many of our TYs are currently completing their Gaisce Challenge and this community involvement is a fantastic way for the students to develop skills and qualities that will stay with them for life.
