On Thursday, Feb. 6th 28 Fifth Year students travelled with Religion teacher Mrs Griffiths to St Mel’s Cathedral, Longford to participate in the inaugural Seinn Concert with the Diocese of Ardagh and Clonmacnoise. Seinn aims to promote liturigical music in second-level schools. The project involves students learning a programme of liturgical music and performing together, alongside students from throughout the diocese. It saw 280 students from 9 schools perform 18 songs.

The girls showed great dedication in the run-up to the event. They downloaded the tracks to practice at home and rehearsed for 3 weeks before the concert during break and lunch. The event began with the students taking part in a series of workshops, followed by rehearsals, before the evening’s concert performance. The concert was wonderful, with professional staging, lighting and backing musicians. In addition to the group performance Katie Nally, Emily Spencer, Promise Awudo and Esther Luindula each took to the stage for solos, with Chloe O’Rourke-Harris reading a reflection.

The girls really loved the whole experience and the school would like to extend our thanks to the Diocese of Ardagh and Clonmacnoise for inviting our students to participate. Thank you also to the staff of St Mel’s Cathedral and St Mel’s College for their hospitality and to our Diocesan Advisor Fr Turlough Baxter for the guidance and encouragement throughout.
