Last Thursday morning three Bower students from TY interviewed television and radio personality Sile Seoige ‘as gaeilge’. The interview team was headed up by Eimear Devaney, Ciara Egan and Niamh Alex McNamara and was mentored by their teacher, Mairead Reilly. The girls had been working on this project for weeks, liaising with Ms Seoige’s agent on a suitable time to chat with the star. The interview, which was conducted by telephone, covered many topics such as growing up in Spiddal, her path to interviewing the stars, climbing Kilimanjaro and Ms Seoige’s recent illness – battling thyroid cancer.
According to the students involved this was a most enjoyable and worthwhile project, which took Irish lessons out of the classroom and into everyday life. They would like to thank Sile for her time and courtesy. The Irish department is keen to encourage initiatives that promote our native language. Maire Eilis Ni Fhlaithearta who plays Caitriona from Ros na Run has already visited the school.
The interview will appear in the school’s annual magazine Spectrum.
