The Bower second year B team defeated Ursuline Convent ,Sligo in the final of the Sweetman Shield in a closely fought match at the Regional Sports Centre on Monday 11th April . The girls had already succeeded in getting past Taylor’s Hill in the semi-final , played in Galway in March. Both teams got off to a flying start and excellent play by Aoibhin Joyce and captain Libby Mahon kept the Ursuline shots out.  The Bower stayed in contention throughout the first half, resulting in a powerful  goal by Anna Murray, and a 1-0 lead for the Bower at half time. The teams battled it out in the second half but the Bower managed to stay on top, the final score remaining 1-0, much to the team’s delight. Immediately after the match, captain Libby Mahon was presented with the Sweetman Shield by Pat Fox, President of Connacht Hockey.
