We are delighted to see that Athlone Institute of Technology is hosting a senior girls soccer competition on Tuesday evenings on the astro-turf in the college.
It was the first time for these girls to play together in their initial match against AIT. It took the team a little bit of time to settle, unfortunately going down 3-0 at the start. However, an impressive amount of determination, enthusiasm and spirit saw them pull it back to 3-2 after eighteen minutes. The game was much more competitive and end to end with both teams displaying a huge amount of skill. The final score was AIT 6-3 Our Lady’s Bower.
Some excellent football skills were on display from international soccer star Carla Mc Manus who scored a hat-trick. Rebecca Collins was solid in defence, Ciara Mc Manus showed great control on the ball in mid-field and Lilijana Batricevic’s speed on the wing was exceptional.
Preparations begin now for the next match. With a little more work these girls will be ready to take on Coláiste Chiaráin next Tuesday evening. The final round robin match will be against Killeigh FC.
