The three competing teams from the Bower each won gold at the recent Connacht Cross Country Championships held in St Mary’s College in Galway on 8 February. The school finished as best girls’ school when the junior, intermediate and senior teams claimed first place and Ciara Greene qualified as an individual in the minor race. This was a great achievement for all concerned as each race is at least two kilometres long with an entry of approximately 80 runners per race. Best for the junior team was Annie Daly who finished in second place, while Veronica and Michelle Burke were placed in the top ten. In the intermediate event Kate Burke was fifth, while Sive Brassil and Clare Burke finished second and third respectively in the senior race, ensuring that all the very talented Burke girls were placed.
The All-Ireland Finals will be held at ALSAA on Saturday, 12 March. The intermediate and senior teams won bronze in last year’s national finals and hope to return with a silver or gold this time out. Good luck to all!
