It wasn’t only the recent snow that helped the students in Our Lady’s Bower get into the Christmas mood. On Thursday night, December 16th, the school choir and orchestra performed a variety of musical pieces to a packed house of family and friends. The concert was organised by Mary Hopkins, Barbara Dowling, Hilary Price and Lisa Abuquerque from the music department and featured the talents of their young students. The choir, joined by some brave lads from Marist College, performed some Christmas carols as well as well-known songs such as “Hallelujah” and the Oscar winning melody “Falling Slowly”. The pieces were interspersed with performances on the piano, saxophone, violin, clarinet and trumpet. However, one of the highlights of the night was the performance of “Rainforest”, led by Hilary Price, where the lights were turned off and the choir mimiced the sounds of a storm in the forest by clicking their fingers and tapping. The music department can be very proud of their pupils as the night, introduced by Harry Smith, was a great success. The girls hope to give another performance early in 2011 so watch this space.
