Congratulations to 6th Year Clare Reidy who was the joint 1st place gold medal winner at the Chemistry Olympiad Ireland 2022. The ChOIRL is a competition for students located on the island of Ireland in their final year of second level education.
For 2022, the National Finals were hosted over two rounds. 230 students from 100 schools across the island took part in Round 1a, which took place online as a multiple-choice quiz on Saturday, January 29. Question topics were chosen from all areas of Chemistry, based on Chemistry topics of the Leaving Certificate, A-Levels and IB Chemistry curricula. Round 1b saw the top students selected and consisted of a written exam on March 5th.
Clare was announced as one of two gold medal winners on March 12th during an online awards ceremony. As a national award winner, she is now invited to attend training for the International Chemistry Olympiad in Dublin over the Easter break. The final team of 4 students to represent Ireland at the 54th International Chemistry Olympiad 2022 at Nankai University in Tianjin, China in July will be selected following a further, final examination at the end of the Round 2 training.
Clare continues to excel on the national stage and Our Lady’s Bower is very proud to see her reap the rewards that come from all her hard work. She is a wonderful ambassador for our school, and we wish her every success in her training to represent Team Ireland.
