The cross country Connacht Finals were held on Tuesday, 25 February at Sligo Racecourse on an extremely cold day. However, the adverse weather conditions did not hamper the Bower athletes who competed in each of the four age groups.
Once again the senior team – Michelle and Veronica Burke, Olwyn Sheridan, Maedbh Hurst and Annie Daly- were the stars of the day, qualifying in 1st place. The junior team were delighted when they discovered they had finished second. They were Aoife Greene, Eva McKiernan, Alanna Friel, Michelle Faller, Tierna Maguire and Aine NíLeocháin.
Finally, first year Brionna Geoghegan qualified as an individual when she finished 9th in a field of seventy four. In the intermediate section Ciara Greene was 7th, an excellent result in the gruelling 3,000m event.
Next up is the All-Ireland finals on Saturday, 8 March at Cork IT. Good Luck to all athletes competing.
