The South Connacht Cross Country took place in Bushfield, Loughrea on Wednesday 29January on a bright but bitterly cold day. The Bower entered a record number of seven teams comprising forty girls.

The Bower senior team were the stars of the day achieving first place! In fact, the Bower girls – Veronica Burke, Michelle Burke, Maedbh Hurst and Annie Daly – were the first four girls to cross the finish line. Olwyn Sheridan was unable to run, due to an injury.

 Brionna Geoghegan excelled in the minor event finishing in sixth place in a field of over a hundred athletes! Our minor team –  Brionna Geoghegan, Louise Kennedy, Ide Crehan, Aileen Egan, Amy Brill and Hannah Tumulty – came second. Louise Kennedy also did very well finishing in twenty-first position.

Our junior team – Aoife Greene, Eva McKiernan, Alanna Friel, Aine Ni Leochain, Michelle Faller and Jennifer Larkin – finished in second place. In this 1500m race, best was Aoife Greene achieving sixth place. Eva McKiernan ran well to finish sixteenth.

 Finally, our intermediate team also finished in second place. Ciara Greene, Aoife’s sister, excelled for the Bower coming home in fourth place. Jennifer Moore also finished strong in thirteenth place. The intermediate team consisted of Ciara Greene, Jennifer Moore, Karen Pillion and Julie Healy.

Good luck to all the Bower athletes in the upcoming Connacht Finals on Tuesday 25 February at Sligo Racecourse!
