Congratulations to 5th Year Ellen Reilly who was named winner in the Senior Violin category at this Year’s Feis Ceoil Classical Musical Competition. Ellen has form in this competition, having previously come 2nd at Junior level. This, the 125th year of the competition, took place virtually with competitors recording and submitting their performances to the adjudicating panel.

Ellen has been preparing for the competition since last October, when the set pieces were released – After the Tryst by James McMillian and Danse Macabre by Camille Saint-Saens. She performed with a piano accompanist and really impressed the judge with her artistry, musical commitment, attention to detail, interpretation of the composers’ intentions, awareness for style and technical accomplishment.

Music teacher Ms Hopkins was thrilled to hear the winner announced on Wednesday March 24th and share her memories of winning the Senior Harp category when she was Ellen’s age. Ellen is looking forward to receiving the Úna Kenny Howlin Memorial Cup and medal. We wish her continued musical success.
