Helen Harney from Portiuncula Hospital is in the school this week giving a course on First Aid and Resuscitation to sixteen students from Transition Year. The girls will gain essential knowledge on how to cope with emergencies arising at home, in school or socially. The two-day course covers medical  procedures for dealing with burns and scalds,  wounds, bleeding and concussion. However, much more serious emergencies are also covered, and the girls will learn what to do in the event of a stroke, asthma attack, heart  or epileptic attack as well as how to administer CPR. The course is certified and is proving so popular that another one will be organised for after Christmas.
