A total of five first year hockey teams headed over to the Regional Sports Centre in Athlone on Thursday, 9 February to take on the girls from Ursuline, Sligo. It was a day of mixed fortunes but coach Gudge Moran was delighted with the commitment and spirit shown by the enthusiastic Bower players.
In the Cahill Cup the A team secured a 1-1 draw while the B team also had a draw. The C team held Sligo to a scoreless draw but unfortunately the D team conceded two goals. In the Blackmore Cup the Bower girls fought hard but went down eventually to a solid Sligo squad.
