Recently the Transition Year students had some memorable experiences on a three-day trip to the Horizon Outdoor Education Centre in Westport, Co Mayo. This annual event on the TY calendar always proves to be one of the highlights of the year, which is no surprise considering the quality of the accommodation and the variety of activities on offer. They stayed at the Westport Woods Hotel from the 16-18 October, accompanied by three staff members.
The students experienced a variety of activities, from canoeing on the river to laser light adventures in full camouflage. Other more novel activities included High Ropes, which involved scaling a climbing frame attached to a harness for safety, board walking and Nightline – a follow-the-leader game played wearing a blindfold. Because of the teamwork and level of cooperation needed, the group was able to bond very quickly.
A talent show and indoor games kept the students busy at night and judging from the photographs, great fun was had by all. Many thanks to all involved in organising the trip and especially to those who gave up their free time to supervise the girls. All TY students will be out on work experience from 4-8 November.
