The school is delighted with the news that eleven dresses have made it through to the regional final of Junk Kouture 2018, the recycled fashion competition that has proved to be a great platform for the creativity and inventiveness of our TY students.
Still buzzing from voting Moo (created by Isabelle Clarke and Mary Brody) through on the Lifeline vote introduced this year, art teacher Oonagh Kelly is hopeful that this achievement will inspire this year’s competitors. The eleven outfits are available to view on Facebook and include materials as diverse as shells, wood, milk cartons, film reel and electric cable.
The Bower girls have won this competition outright twice and have also been awarded the Glamour prize on several occasions. Last year Rachel Barrington walked the red carpet in Cannes as part of her prize.
Congratulations to past pupil and winner of the competition in 2014 Ruth Gallagher, who has been invited to participate as a regional judge this year. Ruth is a Psychology student in UCD and won the competition wearing Pine-a-Coladas created with friends Emma Kinsella and Jane Wallace.
