Congratulations to 5th Year Katie Commins, who has ranked in the top 100 students nationally and qualified for the National Final of AILO (All Ireland Linguistic Olympiad, the problem-solvers’ challenge) 2019, which will take place in DCU on March 20th.
A large number of Bower students participated in an ADAPT Problem Solving Workshop in December, in preparation for the competition. This workshop helped the students with strategy, showed them how to analyse data and write concise rules. Students had also been sharpening their problem-solving skills by working on monthly sample puzzles.
The preliminary round of the competition took place on Monday, January 28th when the paper was taken in school under exam conditions. Katie was the school’s top scorer, with fellow 5th Year Mya O’Connor and 3rd Year Clare Reidy also putting in a very strong performance. The top four students in the individual round at the national finals will qualify to represent Ireland at the International Linguistics Olympiad in South Korea in July.
