On Wednesday, October 16th 23 eager TYs worked with Elaine McGovern and Martina McCorry from the Ladies Gaelic Football Association, as part of the LGFA TY Coaching Programme. The programme was both theoretical and practical, with the girls receiving instruction on the basics of coaching, refereeing and event management training.
The LGFA provide this programme to prepare students for eventual roles as players, coaches, and administrators in the future. It aims to building leadership, team work and networking skills.
Having completed this programme, the girls look forward to working with students in local primary schools as coaches and mentors. They are also excited to plan and organise a series of blitz tournaments in which their teams will participate.
The girls thoroughly enjoyed the day that saw them develop important transferable and lifelong skills. We would like to thank Elaine and Martina for working with our students and encouraging them to take on leadership roles as they set out on their coaching careers.
