Sixth year Bower student Kayle Crosson was a double prize winner at the NUI Maynooth Law essay writing competition last month with her paper entitled “Getting Ireland Back to Work”. She was awarded first prize in the economics category and finished second overall.

Second level students from around the country were invited to write an essay on the theme of ‘Mandate for a Better Ireland’, the purpose being to give a voice to students and to inspire positive action.

The ceremony, which announced the winning essays, was a special celebration of the work of the students, in addition to recognising the importance of our young people’s contribution to the formation of a better society.

The Minister for Social Protection, Joan Burton, TD, and Legal Editor of the Independent, Dearbhail McDonald, were Guest Speakers of the 2013 NUIM Law Schools Essay Competition.  The competition, which concluded in a ceremony held in Iontas Theatre, asked second level students to write an essay on the theme, ‘Mandate for a Better Ireland’.  At the prize-giving, Alex Delamer, fifth year student of Belvedere College, Dublin, saw off strong competition from a field of entrants hailing from schools across the country.

Praising participants for the high standards achieved, Minister Burton commented that the superb quality of the essays filled her with hope for this country’s future.
