The much anticipated first year public speaking final for the Nicola Ward Trophy took place on Friday, 20 May in the meeting room. Ten finalists spoke on topics as diverse as obesity, bullying, gossip and the joys of being young.
The worthy winner was Eabha Crehan who spoke on the topic of overprotected teenagers, while Aoife McDermott and Ellen O’Connell were second and third respectively. The competition was adjudicated by Ms Emily Shine, Ms Ethel Lydon and Mr Eamon Higgins who instigated the competition while teaching in the Bower. All competitors received certificates to mark the occasion.
The interval entertainment was provided by talented first years, involving piano, guitar, and even some tap dancing.
