Our Bower bakers took to the kitchen on Tuesday November 10th for the annual Junior Cupcake Competition. This competition creates great excitement each year, with students and staff alike eager to file into the kitchen to see the wonderful results of the morning’s bake.

This year’s finalists did not disappoint. They were Aoibhín Tynan – Teddy Bear Picnic, Alice Behan – Spring is Blooming, Gemma Mannion – Mythical Cupcakes, Sarah Rockett – Hallowe’en Cupcakes, Annie Waters – Jimmy “Chew” Cupcakes, Saoirse Dolan – The Cactus Garden, Aoibhínn Brogan – Caramel Cupcake Coffee, Caoimhe Dolan – The Snow Scene, Ceara Dwyer – Oh Honey “Bee” Mine and Jessica Collins – Cupcake Castle.

The girls showed serious skill, being able to bake and decorate their batch within the time allowed. Perhaps there were a few who were well practiced, having given into the phase of banana bread baking that many households succumbed to during the months of lockdown! Judges were keeping tabs on the girls’ organisation during the bake, while also awarding marks for taste and appearance. The judges, Ms Beades and Annemarie Lough had a very difficult task and each of the finalists were commended for their creativity and attention to detail. An amazing display of edible ghosts and goblins, teddies, high-heel shoes, mermaid tails, evergreen trees, cappuccinos, beehives, cacti and flowers was produced. Every detail was thought of and really intricate designs were showcased.

After some deliberation, the judges announced the winners. Caoimhe Dolan came 1st with her wintery landscape, Saoirse Dolan came 2nd with her variety of cacti plants with Aoibhínn Brogan’s coffee shots coming 3rd. Each of the finalists were presented with certificates and some sweet treats, with the winners also receiving a One 4 All voucher and a selection of baking equipment, which we’re sure will be put to very good use. Congratulations to each of the girls. You should be very proud of your talents.
