A strong contingent of Bower students competed with Athlone Boat Club on Saturday, January 19th at the Irish Indoor Rowing Championships. Seven students from the school were among the hundreds of athletes competing in the UL Arena, all alongside world champions Sanita Puspure and Paul O’Donovan. Aoife Hensey, Ava Kelly, Ava Larkin, Eliza Heaslip, Niamh Tallon, Molly Larkin and Cliodhna Murtagh all put in great performances on the day and exhibited both grit and determination in their events, proving the hours of winter training paid off.
With great delight, Athlone Boat Club informed the school that Aoife Hensey took the bronze in her age group. This was a super achievement, as over 50 girls from all over Ireland took part in her category. Eliza Heaslip took the Bronze in the j15 1000m and silver in the 500m sprint. Again, this category had a large number of entries. Both girls battled it out to the finish. Athlone Boat Club wish to say well done to all our girls who took part. We would also like to extend our congratulations to all the rowers and their coaches.
