Gan aon agó, tá an Ghaeilge beo beathach sa Ghrianán Mhuire!

This year, over forty poems and posters were submitted by our students for the national Comórtais Óige Sheachtain na Gaeilge ’22. We wish them every success.

We also had a Babhta Biongó for our first years on Friday the 4th of March and for our fifth years on Monday the 7th of March. We also held a Céilí on Thursday the 10th of March and Ms Finneran, as ever, proved to be a wonderful MC/Bean an Tí for all of these occasions!

The Central Area in the Bower was a hive of activity on Wednesday the 9th of March when we held our annual Seó Raidió an Ghrianáin. All of the weeks of practice finally paid off for the performers and the production team under the watchful eye of the Athlone Community Radio broadcasting team. We had poets and dancers, singers and musicians as well as a number of speakers who spoke on a variety of topics as Gaeilge.

A sincere ‘míle buíochas’ to ACR and to all of the teachers who facilitated this event, particularly the múinteoirí ceoil, Ms Hopkins and Ms Duignan, and the múinteoirí Gaeilge who were so supportive and enthusiastic throughout.

A big thank you also to all of the students who took part in this special celebration of language and culture with our local community. Mar a deir an seanfhocal: ‘Ní neart go cur le chéile!’

In the meantime, a number of young actors from Transition Year are trying to find time in their very busy schedule to rehearse their brand new Irish play ‘Athrú Intinne’ which they hope to enter into Gael-Linn’s Comórtas Podchraoladh 2022!

Go dté sibh slán!
