Comhghairdeas mór to the presenters, producers and contributors of Seó Raidió 2019. Our annual TY driven radio show, broadcast on Athlone Community Radio, celebrates the school’s ‘Grá don Ghaeilge’ during Sheachtain na Gaeilge. The school received the exciting news that this year’s production has been shortlisted for an Oireachtas Media Award, a national awards ceremony which celebrates Irish language media and is sponsored by the Broadcasting Authority of Ireland.
The production is one of seven shows shortlisted for the Irish Language Programme of the Year on Community Radio. Our show is the only school-produced programme to be shortlisted and is testament to the professionalism of the student presenters and producers and the talents of the contributors, who took to the airwaves to entertain the listeners with interviews, music, song, and dance.
Congratulations to teacher and mentor Mr. Keating and thank you to the wonderful staff of Athlone Community Radio for expertly guiding our students through the process and providing our girls with a platform to showcase their skills and love for the Irish language. The whole crew look forward to attending the 21st annual awards ceremony and gala evening at Citywest Hotel in Dublin, during the Oireachtas na Samhna festival, on October 30th. The ceremony will see some of Ireland’s top film and programme makers, presenters and journalists from the Irish language media sector assemble to celebrate the success and achievements of the last year. TG4 will also have a special live broadcast from the red carpet to interview guests as they arrive. We wish the girls, Mr Keating and the staff of Athlone Community Radio every success for the event.
