Our Lady’s Bower U14s were thrilled to welcome Clare County footballer Laurie Ryan to the school for the Serious Support Schools Programme.

The programme supported by Lidl and the Ladies Gaelic Football Association and delivered by the Youth Sport Trust charity aims to reduce the drop-out rate in sport participation amongst girls in their Junior Cycle through workshops and training sessions led by county players such as Laurie, who act as athlete mentors for the girls. Laurie, along with fellow athlete mentors are committed to using sport to transform the lives of young people.

Laurie shared inspiring stories of her journey through her sporting career, with the ups and downs that crossed her path and how sport has helped her become the person she is today. During the day Laurie took the girls through a training session and then delivered workshops which highlighted the values of responsibility, trust, respect, and recognition which are key lessons in life.

The students loved the experience and fun throughout the day. Thank you to Laurie, the Ladies Gaelic Football Association and Lidl for this opportunity.
