Twenty eight students from Our Lady’s Bower braved the elements on Thursday, 28 January to participate in the South Connacht Cross Country Championships in South Park, Galway.
The first race was the minor girls 1500m where we entered two teams from first year, followed by the junior event where our A team secured second place. Despite a knee injury Rebecca Lowe finished in silver medal position while Aoife McDermott and Eabha Crehan also excelled, finishing in 5th and 10th place.
In the gruelling 2500m intermediate race all four entrants were happy to complete the race. Well done Emmanuelle Besler, Marta Breton, Lucia Pineda and Mercedes Aceituno.
The final race of the day was the senior event where Aoife Greene, Ide Crehan, Katie Higgins, Tierna Maguire and Ciara MacCarthy were thrilled to finish in bronze position. Another team member, Eva McKiernan, missed the race due to illness.
The Connacht finals will be held in Sligo on Tuesday, 7 February. Good luck to all who have qualified!
