There were a number of exciting events and competitions enjoyed in Our Lady’s Bower in celebration of Maths Week 2022.

1st Years took part in a maths quiz on day 1. They worked as teams, building on their problem-solving skills and had great fun throughout. Well done to 1st place winners – Carmen Merino, Blanca Armada, Rocio Lopez and Mencia Marin and 2nd place winners – Amelia Henson, Ruby Duane, Hannah Ganly and Alanna Gaffey.

A puzzle of the day was shared over the intercom on days 2, 3 and 4, which saw Aoibheann Flynn (1st Year), Kylie Chen (6th Year) and Ellie Byrne (3rd Year) all win A Slice of Life canteen voucher.

The students took to the Greenway and Fitness Park at Athlone Regional Sports Centre throughout the week as part of a Maths Eye Trail. The girls were tasked with taking pictures of maths in the great outdoors and highlighting how maths is all around us. Well done to the winners, both in 1st Year – Anna Rose Henshaw and Lavonder Serhan.

A maths themed baking competition rounded off the week and this gave students the opportunity to show off their culinary skills. Fantastic creativity was on display, with calculator cakes, clocks, maths sets, and fruit pies being showcased. Well done to all who entered and congratulations to the winners – Aideen Derwin and Ríonagh Costello (1st Year), Ellen Brennan (2nd Year), Ellie Byrne 3rd Year), Isabel Encabo (TY), Anais Dubas (5TH Year) and Eloise Clarke (6th Year).

Well done to all the students who participated with such enthusiasm throughout the week and thank you to the school’s Maths Department for organising another wonderful event.
