The much anticipated first year public speaking final for the Nicola Ward Trophy took place on Friday, 19 May in the meeting room. Ten finalists spoke on topics as diverse and topical as gender equality, gossip or the difficulty of being a teenager.
The worthy winner was Emma Brody who spoke on the topic ‘Money is the Root of All Evil’, while Kristabel Akwei, Liadh Nic Ghiolla Phadraig and Grainne Behan were second, third and fourth respectively. The competition was adjudicated by Ms Susan Eades, Ms Ethel Lydon and Mr Eamon Higgins who instigated the competition while teaching in the Bower. All competitors received certificates and book vouchers to mark the occasion.
